The Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) Council election 2025 is an important opportunity to help shape the future of UK primary care. Dr Tanvir Alam, Chief Medical Advisor at Core Prescribing Solutions, is standing as a candidate for the RCGP Council election – and he brings both.

With over 13 years’ experience as a General Practitioner and Clinical Consultant, Dr Alam has combined frontline care with national leadership roles. As Deputy Medical Director at North East Essex Integrated Care Board, he has led on delivering integrated primary care services and tackling health inequalities. As a GP partner in Clacton-on-Sea – one of the most deprived areas of the country – he helped achieve an Outstanding CQC rating and pioneered initiatives to reduce local health disparities.

A proven record of leadership in General Practice

Dr Alam’s leadership goes beyond his practice. He serves as a Training Programme Director at NHS England, where he leads initiatives to support International Medical Graduates (IMGs) and ethnic minority doctors. His commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion in general practice was recognised with the Imran Yousaf Memorial Award, as well as national nominations for Inclusive Leader of the Year.

He is a Fellow or Member of multiple respected institutions – including the Royal College of General Practitioners, the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management, and the Institute of Equality and Diversity Professionals – and was recognised as one of the 50 most influential Muslims in Europe.
